Thank God for Henry Halley and his (original) Bible Handbook.
He would certainly say something about what I report here, if he could. He has been gone from us
many years now. And his family and "friends" at Zondervan
Publishing have taken it upon themselves to revise
him.
You see, Halley's is a double-edged sword, but today, its financial edge
is most effective. That is , Halley continues to sell books for Zondervan. His
research into the history and archaeology of the Bible have become standards of
the Handbook industry. They didn't revise that.
But Henry Halley was also a historian. As in Church History. As in Roman
Catholic persecution in the Middle Ages.
And as is the case with many evangelical powerhouses, Rome has gotten
to the Zondervan enterprise. Who says Rome is dead? The power it wields on
hearts and minds worldwide is still mighty. There has been only one worldwide
empire from the days of the Caesars until now. Rome reigns.
Rome has corrupted evangelists, authors, seminaries. It was only a matter of
time before someone would call the local priest, who would call the bishop, who
would call the Pope, to complain about Halley's view of church history.
Page after page of the original Halley, documents the evils of the medieval
"church." From early infidels to the union of church and state
to the depths of papal degradation, Halley covers it all.
Try to find any of that in the Halley's (so-called) Bible Handbook now in your local Christian bookstore(25th edition and ff).
It's been "Revised." That is, Erased. Cleansed. Halley is
now a mouse who speaks what is proper and nice. No one is to be offended by
Halley. No one is to hurt our sales.
Shame on those who have yielded to this nonsense. God give us men who will
continue to say to the church and to false religion, too, what needs to be
said.
May God raise up 100 Halleys to print 100 true histories of Rome!
